Ukrainian Catholic University Declares Autonomy of Its Voice in Election Process

LVIV — On September 19, 2009, at its session, the Senate of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) approved a new wording of the document “Policy of the university on the election process in Ukraine,” which was first passed by the institution in 2004. In the document, the UCU community states that it wishes to preserve the autonomy of its voice and fitting neutrality toward the diversity of parties and election blocks. At the same time, the university is prepared for a discussion provided that its forum “will not be used for black PR and revenges against one’s opponents.” Read more...

Greek Catholic Scholar of the UCU Responds to Statement of Moscow Patriarchate Representative Made During Meeting with PopeLVIV — The head of the Department of Church History of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Professor Oleh Turiy, commented on the recent statements of the head of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archbishop Illarion of Volokolamsk, expressed by him during a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI and the Prefect for the Congregation of the Oriental Churches, Cardinal Sandri. The professor called the arguments of the archbishop used to substantiate the statement about the difficult situation in western Ukraine and the problem with Greek Catholics being a “stumbling block” for the dialogue between the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches as ungrounded.
